In Pokelike, victory is decided not just in battle, but on the map. Choosing the right path, understanding node risks and rewards, and planning around the Base Stats Total (BST) thresholds of each map can make or break your run.
This wiki guide documents the exact map node behaviors, event weights, BST ranges, and the scaling math of Endless Mode extracted directly from the game's codebase.
🗺️ Map Node Types & Effects
The route map contains several node types, each providing distinct gameplay benefits or dangers:
| Node Type | Icon | Action / Effect | Level Gain | Mechanics & Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Start | ★ | Entry Point | - | Shows the active game mode via subtle background tinting (blue for Normal, red for Nuzlocke). |
| Wild Battle | Fight wild Pokémon | +1 Level | Battle against a random wild Pokémon matching the map's BST bucket. | |
| Trainer Battle | Fight typed Trainer | +2 Levels | Battle against a specialized trainer (e.g. Bug Catcher uses Bug types). | |
| Boss | Fight Gym Leader / Boss | - | Final node of the map. Defeating them unlocks the next map. | |
| Catch Pokémon | Draft new Pokémon | - | Select a Pokémon to add to your team from a draft of 3 choices. | |
| Item | Loot Items | - | Choose a held item, TM, or recovery item. | |
| Random Event | Mystery Event | - | Triggers a random event with positive or negative outcomes. | |
| Pokémon Center | Heal Team | - | Fully restores the HP of all team members. | |
| Move Tutor | Modify Moves | - | Allows custom move learning or move adjustments. | |
| Trade | Swap Pokémon | - | Swap one of your Pokémon for a draft choice that is +3 levels higher. | |
| Legendary Encounter | Fight Legendary | - | High-difficulty wild battle against a legendary Pokémon. | |
| Rival Silver | Special Rival Fight | +4 Levels | Gen 2 exclusive. Spawns on maps 1, 3, 5, and 7. Heals team after victory. No permadeath in Nuzlocke. |
[!IMPORTANT]
- Trade & Catch Nodes are completely disabled in Nuzlocke Mode and Endless Mode (with the exception of Nuzlocke's start nodes).
- Pokémon Centers are guaranteed to spawn exactly once on the last content layer of every map, directly preceding the Boss.
📊 Node Spawn Weights & Probabilities
The game determines which nodes appear in the content layers using a weighted random algorithm.
Gen 1 Mode (Layer-by-Layer Weights)
Gen 1 uses a progressive distribution where early layers prioritize catches, and later layers introduce advanced nodes:
| Content Layer | Wild Battle | Catch | Item | Trainer | Random (?) | Move Tutor | Trade |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Layer 1 | 25 | 30 | 15 | 30 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Layer 2 | 20 | 20 | 15 | 30 | 10 | 0 | 5 |
| Layer 3 | 16 | 14 | 12 | 27 | 13 | 9 | 9 |
| Layer 4 | 13 | 12 | 10 | 27 | 13 | 8 | 8 |
| Layer 5 | 13 | 10 | 8 | 27 | 18 | 8 | 7 |
| Layer 6 | 20 | 9 | 14 | 18 | 9 | 0 | 0 |
Gen 2 Mode (Flat Weights)
Gen 2 maps use a flat percentage-based distribution across all content layers:
- Trainer Battle: 40%
- Wild Battle: 25%
- Item: 10%
- Random Event (?): 10%
- Catch Pokémon: 5%
- Move Tutor: 5%
- Trade: 5%
⚙️ Map Modifiers
- Nuzlocke Modifiers:
catchandtradenode weights are reduced to0. However, the game forces two Catch nodes on Layer 1 to give the player starting choices. - Endless Modifiers:
tradeweight is reduced to0, andcatchweights are halved. - Legendary Spawns: In normal runs, on maps 6+ (index 5) and content layer index >= 2, the
legendarynode type gets a weight of2. In Endless Region 3, everycatchnode has a 1/6 (16.7%) chance to morph into a Legendary Encounter. - Rival Silver (Gen 2 Only): Pinpointed to the center slot of Layer 4 (the middle 3-node layer) on maps 1, 3, 5, and 7, replacing the rolled node.
📉 Wild Pokémon BST Constraints
To prevent players from finding overpowered Pokémon too early, wild encounters are locked to strict Base Stats Total (BST) ranges depending on the map/stage.

[!NOTE] For Endless Mode (Battle Tower), there are no static maps. Instead, the game dynamically scales the BST limits of wild encounters and draft choices by mapping the current stage's maximum level limit to one of the static map BST pools. For complete math formulas, gen gating, and boss details, refer to the Battle Tower & Endless Mode page.
