Pokelike (Pokelike.xyz) is a highly strategic Pokémon browser-based autobattler where your success depends entirely on team drafting, type advantages, and held item configuration.
Because different game modes feature distinct level caps, evolutions, and scaling rates, we have separated the tier rankings into three distinct lists: Kanto (Gen 1 Mode), Johto (Gen 2 Mode), and Battle Tower (Endless Mode).
1. Kanto (Gen 1 Mode) Tier List
In Gen 1 Mode, the level cap scales up to level 60–65 for the final Champion fight. Only the original 151 Pokémon are available, meaning there are no Gen 2 evolutions (e.g., Onix cannot evolve into Steelix).
💡 Gen 1 Strategy & Explanations
👑 S-Tier Spotlights
- Alakazam / Kadabra (Psychic): Kadabra with Eviolite (+50% Def/SpDef) or Alakazam equipped with Choice Specs (+30% special DMG) are absolute sweepers. Since Gen 1 calculations fall back to the raw
specialstat for both Sp.Atk and Sp.Def, Kadabra retains insane bulk while outputs massive Tier 2 Psychic damage. - Lapras (Water/Ice): The ultimate dragon slayer. Lapras possesses high base HP (130) and learns Tier 2 special Ice moves (Ice Beam or Blizzard). Give it a Shell Bell (heal 15% of damage dealt) to make it an unstoppable counter against Lance's Dragonites.
- Chansey (Normal): The ultimate special wall. Equipping Chansey with Eviolite gives its massive 250 HP base stat a 1.5x defense multiplier, soaking up any special sweeps effortlessly.
📦 Gen 1 Held Item Synergy Matrix
| Held Item | Best Holders | In-game Battle Effect | Strength Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eviolite | Kadabra, Chansey, Scyther | Stops evolution; grants NFE holder +50% DEF & +50% Sp. DEF | S+ |
| Shell Bell | Lapras, Alakazam | Recovers 15% of damage dealt as HP | S |
| Choice Specs | Alakazam, Gengar | Increases Special move damage by 30% | A |
| Leftovers | Snorlax | Restores 10% max HP each round | A |
2. Johto (Gen 2 Mode) Tier List
Gen 2 Mode raises the level cap to level 90 and introduces Johto species along with branching evolutions (e.g., Scyther evolves into Scizor, Onix into Steelix, and Magneton into Magnezone).
💡 Gen 2 Strategy & Explanations
👑 S-Tier Spotlights
- Steelix (Steel/Ground): The physical emperor of Gen 2. Steelix has a base Defense of 200 and immunity to Poison. When holding a Lagging Tail (holder always moves last, but output damage is doubled), its slow Speed of 30 becomes an advantage, turning it into a hyper-offensive steel tank.
- Scizor vs Scyther (Eviolite): Scyther has a base Speed of 105 and Attack of 110. If you keep Scyther unevolved holding an Eviolite, it gets a massive +50% dual defense buff, making it statistically bulkier than Scizor while retaining high Speed. Alternatively, evolve it into Scizor and equip a Choice Band (+40% physical DMG) for raw damage output.
📦 Gen 2 Held Item Synergy Matrix
| Held Item | Best Holders | In-game Battle Effect | Strength Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lagging Tail | Steelix, Snorlax | Holder always moves last, but gains +100% damage boost | S+ |
| Eviolite | Chansey, Scyther | Grants NFE holder +50% DEF & +50% Sp. DEF | S |
| Leftovers | Steelix, Snorlax | Restores 10% max HP each round | S |
| Choice Band | Scizor, Dragonite, Machamp | Increases physical damage by 40%, decreases DEF by 20% | A |
3. Battle Tower (Endless Mode) Tier List
In the Endless Battle Tower, levels scale infinitely, and enemies scale up to extreme stat margins. Direct sweepers eventually fall off as survival, defensive stall, and percentage-based damage mechanics dominate.
In this mode, players obtain Type Traits tiers (T1, T2, T3) depending on how many Pokémon of the same type are in the team (2 / 4 / 6). Shiny Pokémon are highly valued because they count as 2 of each of their types, unlocking higher trait tiers easily!
💡 Battle Tower Strategy & Explanations
👑 S-Tier Spotlights
- Chansey (Normal) & Eviolite: Absolutely mandatory for high-floor runs. Chansey's HP pool (250 base) with a 1.5x defense multiplier from Eviolite is the only consistent setup capable of tanking infinite-scaling special sweeps. This works perfectly with the Normal Trait (up to +100% max HP at T3) and the Steel Trait (up to 75% damage reduction at T5).
- Cloyster (Water/Ice) & Rocky Helmet: Cloyster has a base Defense of 180. Equipped with a Rocky Helmet (defender takes 12% of their max HP on each hit), physical sweepers melt themselves just by attacking it, completely bypassing enemy stat inflation on high floors.
- Steelix (Steel/Ground): A powerhouse in Endless mode. Its 200 base defense combined with Steel Traits (15% to 75% damage reduction) and Ground Traits (up to +6 DEF stages at fight start) makes it virtually indestructible. Work this with Leftovers for infinite stall.
📦 Battle Tower Core Type Traits Meta
The Endless Battle Tower engine scales on active type count traits. Here are the most dominant traits to stack:
- Steel Trait (T1 - T5): Reduces incoming damage by 15% / 30% / 45% / 60% / 75% respectively. Having 6 Steel types (or shinies counting double) makes your team unkillable.
- Normal Trait (T1 - T3): Grants +25% / +50% / +100% max HP at fight start. Doubles the health pools of your tanks.
- Ghost Trait (T1 - T3): Executes enemies below 15% / 30% / 50% HP. Essential for bypassing the massive, inflated health pools of late-floor bosses.
- Grass Trait (T1 - T3): Grants Heal 5% / 10% / 15% of damage dealt. Crucial sustain for bulky sweepers.
- Electric Trait (T1 - T3): 15% / 30% / 45% chance to attack again. Provides huge multi-strike DPS.
[!WARNING] Do NOT use Lucky Egg in the Battle Tower. Since Pokémon do not gain regular levels inside the tower, holding a Lucky Egg is completely useless and wastes a valuable item slot.
4. Drafting & Team Building Strategy
To consistently clear runs and push tower floors, keep these general team-building rules in mind:
- Pick the Right Starter: Select a starter that eases the early game. Bulbasaur is ideal for Kanto due to its advantage over Brock and Misty, while Totodile provides excellent late-game bulk for Johto.
- The Golden Trio Rule:
- 1 Sweeper (Carry): Alakazam, Gengar, or Dragonite with Choice items.
- 1 Physical Shield: Steelix or Cloyster with Leftovers/Rocky Helmet.
- 1 Special Sponge: Chansey (Eviolite) or Snorlax.
- Synergy is Key: Always check the opponent's node ahead on the map, rearrange your front/backline placement to exploit type advantages, and avoid sending fragile sweepers against rocky helmet tanks.
